Bexar County Court Information

Bexar County has different courts within its jurisdiction. The Bexar County courthouse in Texas is a historical building built from red sandstone. The office of the Bexar County Court presides in this historical building. The building was established in 1896. Since then it has become a famous landmark.

Commissioners Court in Bexar County

 

In Bexar County, the Commissioners Court is the overall governing body of the county. The Commissioners Court is composed of a county judge and four commissioners. The office of the Bexar County Commissioners Court is overseen by the county judge. The county judge also acts as the ceremonial head and spokesperson of the Bexar County government.

The Bexar County Commissioners Court is responsible for issues like tax and revenue decisions, budgetary decisions and every other personnel decision. There are certain positions which are appointed or elected by the judicial or other committees.

The Justice of Peace courts of Bexar County originally hear cases of misdemeanour and crime where the only punishment is fines. However, the Justice of Peace courts also hear civil cases where the fined amount is equal to or less than $200.
