Information about Your Municipal Ticket
A municipal ticket is a legal document which is issued to an individual when he or she violates any of the municipal ordinances of the Oklahoma City code. It requires individuals to take a prompt action, depending on the type of the ticket received by them.
There are a few things that you can do when you receive a criminal ticket or a traffic ticket from the Oklahoma City courts. If you choose to plead guilty or not to contest the ticket, you have the following options before you. These are:
You can pay for your ticket by phone, in person or through the mail. If you choose to pay by phone, you can do so by using your credit cards such as the MasterCard, Visa or Discover. To make cash payment contact: 405 297 2361 between Monday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on holidays.
If you choose to pay in person, you need to go to the Municipal Court Building which is situated at 700 Couch Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73107. You can visit the court building on all days of the week, between 7a.m. and midnight.
If you want to pay your ticket by mail, you need to mention your ticket number on the back of your check or the money order. If you want to use a credit card, you need to provide your credit card information on the back of the ticket. You cannot pay your ticket in cash by using this option. You need to enclose a copy of your ticket along with the ticket fee and mail the details to: Oklahoma City Municipal Court, P.O. Box 26487, Oklahoma City, OK 73126 0487.
The arraignment date is the due date by which you need to take action on your ticket. The information about the arraignment date is provided at the bottom of the ticket just above your signature. When you decide to not contest the ticket or decide to plead guilty, you need to appear at the City Court on or before the arraignment date that is mentioned on your ticket. You can visit the City Court in Oklahoma on any day between Monday and Friday, except on holidays. You will need to check in at the public counter window number 10, at least 30 minutes before the time that is listed on your ticket. This counter will direct you to the courtroom that you need to go to.
When you fail to appear by the due date listed on your ticket, the court will issue a bench warrant for your arrest. At such times the fine involved with your ticket will be increased to the maximum. In addition, you will be charged with a “failure to appear” case, which may involve paying additional fees as fine.
In case of a Juvenile Court case or a case involving the Jury Division Court, you need to appear in person as these courts do not allow settling the case by paying fines.
But if you decide to plead not guilty and choose to set up a trial date so that you can plead your case before a judge, you need to post a bond before the due date that is mentioned on your ticket or you can also post a bond on the arraignment date. The cost involved in posting a bond will be the amount of the fine that is due plus an additional fee of $35 which is charged as a posting fee. You need to keep the receipt of posting the bond safely with you as it will be required again during your trial.
At the trial you will be given a chance to show evidence that can help you to defend your case.
