Requesting a Colorado Sex Offender List
There are about 10,096 individuals whose names have been registered with the Colorado sex offender list as of June 2nd, 2008. According to the Colorado State Court Administrator’s Office, about sixty percent of the sex offenders in the state are registered in the Colorado sex offender list; these individuals have been sentenced to community placements like probation, parole, or community services. The remaining sex offenders have been sentenced to incarceration in county jails under the supervision of the Department of Corrections.
Laws Concerning Sex Offender Registration
Sex offenders receive a notice from judges, probation and parole officers, the Department of Human Services, county jails, the Department of Corrections, community corrections, and law enforcement directing them to register their names with the Colorado sex offender list. In Colorado a sex offender should register with the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over the area where he or she resides, attends school, or is employed. If a sex offender lives within the limits of a city, he or she should register with the police department of the city; if the offender lives outside the limits of a city, he or she should register with the county sheriff's department.
