Information About the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry
According to the Connecticut General Statutes 54-250 to 54-261, it is essential to preserve and maintain a central registry of all sex offenders who require registering in the state. It is a mandatory duty of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety. Connecticut Sex Offender Registry is a database of all persons who have been convicted of or found guilty of sexual offenses living in the state. There are particular sexual offenses that require the individual offenders’ registration in the central registry. You can find all individuals found not guilty by reason of mental defect or disease or the ones convicted in the registry.
Sex Offender Statutes
The statutes outline the sexual offenses that make the individual convicted of it a candidate for registration. Usually sex offenders convicted of minor crimes need to register for a particular time period. Individual sex offenders of Connecticut convicted of violent or aggravated sexual assault are registered for lifetime. The aim of maintaining this central repository of information about the sex offenders of the state is to assist all law enforcement agencies, employment agencies, state and local authorities, and the community in general to safeguard all, especially children, from sex related crimes.
