The Levels of the Court System in Delaware

The entire system of courts in Delaware has been divided into several sections. The Supreme Court of Delaware is at the helm of all the judicial institutions of the state. Apart from the Supreme Court, Delaware has a comprehensive system of lower courts.

First, there is the Court of Chancery in Delaware; at the next level of hierarchy, there are the Superior Courts of the state. Domestic disputes are handled by the separately established Family Courts. The cases heard here are on divorce and child custody matters, alimony, domestic violence and others like this.

The Court of Common Pleas addresses the lawsuits pertaining to petty civil and criminal offenses. While the Supreme Courts acts as the chief supervisor of all courts in the state, the Common Pleas Court aids in this function. These are formally known as the ‘Arms of the Supreme Court’ of the state.
