Do Not Call Registry Details

The “Do not call” registry is a list that was originally written in order to block out phone spammers. Any telemarketer, who tries to make cold calls to the customers to importune his or her business, mentioned in this list can be prosecuted as set by Federal Trade Commission or FTC. This law is in action for the last two and half years in United States.

Business associations

A telemarketer can make calls to a person or a consumer with whom he or she has a business relationship for one year six months after their last deal, even if the individual is listed in the registry. But in any case if the consumer asks not be contacted any more then the telemarketer must refrain from calling him or her any more.

Aid Organizations and Telephone Assessors

The calls made from charitable organizations or from telephone surveyors are not covered under the list in the registry. To explain it more, suppose someone makes a call to sale his or her own personal service to a person enlisted in the registry then it’s illegal. Whereas if an enlisted person gets a call from a person who wants to solicit money for a charitable trust or organization then it’s legal. But again charitable agencies, political organizations or telephone surveyors must adhere to requests where they are asked by the person called, not to be contacted anymore.

Access to the List Mentioned in the Registry

As a telemarketer you must update your own catalog with the list of the registry and this should be done in an interval of thirty one days. To access the same you can visit the URL:

Consequences

It is absolutely illegal or inappropriate to call any individual mentioned in the list of the do-not-call registry. So as a telemarketer you should be responsible to get yourself updated with the registry and be sure to adhere to all the rules and regulations as mentioned in the guidelines. Any violator can be charged up to $11,000 for each bad call made.

As a civilian you should be aware of this specific registry. If you are being victimized by telemarketers every now and then and are tired of getting cold calls from them then the following website is for you:

To start off with the process you need to register your details in the above mentioned website as per specifications mentioned in the same. The registration process is absolutely free and will be in effect for next five years.

These websites provide you the option of whether you want to receive telemarketing calls. As per norms, if your name is enlisted in the registry for more than thirty one days then a telemarketer should not call your number. In case they do, then you always have the option of complaining against them and lodge a complaint using the following URL:
