Fairfax Court Information and Location
The Fairfax Municipal Court is synonymous with the District Court in Fairfax, Virginia. All the functions of the municipal court fall under the jurisdiction of the District Court in Fairfax. Fairfax is in the 19th judicial district of Virginia. There are thirty two districts in the state of Virginia.
The Fairfax District Court is a limited jurisdiction court. The District Court of Fairfax settles criminal cases, misdemeanors, local ordinance violation cases, traffic violations and the preliminary hearing of felony cases. It hears civil cases with small monetary claims not exceeding $4,500. It is entitled to hear property cases with claim amounts between $4,500 and $15,000. The district court settles land disputes between tenants and landlords, and deals with tenant eviction cases. Filing of civil and small claims cases requires a fee of $41 if the amount of suit is more than $200 or if it is for possession of property. The fee is $36 if the amount of the suit is only $200.
