Citizens of Florida can obtain information sex offenders and sexual predators living in their neighborhoods through the website of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), located at http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us. This website contains information about the sex offenders registered in Florida; this is a useful resource for parents concerned about their well-being and that of their children.
Sex Offender Registry Information
The Florida sex offender list displays the photographs of sex offenders living in the state, along with certain basic information that allows them to be easily identified. Sex offenders appearing on the registry must provide information such as their name, aliases, sex, date of birth, home address, and specific details regarding their appearance. The registry also provides information about conviction of a sex offender and the crime that he or she committed.
If a visitor to the website finds that certain information on the Florida sex offender list is not correct or current, he or she can contact the FDLE or a local law enforcement agency. Those with amendments to the information on the list can also directly call 1-888-357-7332 or send an e-mail to sexpred@fdle.state.fl.us.
Florida sex offenders are required by Florida law to register with the Department of Corrections (DC) or the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). If an offender has changed his or her residential address, school, or employer, the individual must notify the DC or DJJ within 48 hours of the change. If the offender is not under the jurisdiction of the DC or DJJ, he or she must register with the sheriff’s office and also report the changes there.
Depending on the nature of one's conviction, the duration for registration as a sex offender can range from 25 years to life. A sex offender can no longer petition the court for the removal of his or her status as a sex offender in accordance with the federal Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which took effect on July 1, 2007.

Users can search for a sex offender by name, area, or both at this website. It is also possible to request a list of sexual offenders living within a certain zip code.
The criminal history records search on the FDLE website provides extra information on sex offenders regarding their criminal history: http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/Content/getdoc/2952da22-ba08-4dfc-9e45-2d7932a803ea/Obtaining-Criminal-History-Information.aspx. A criminal record check from FDLE costs $24. Information on sex offenders who are residing in a specific area can also be viewed, which can be helpful in warning others in the community about the presence of sex offenders. However, the FDLE website does not disseminate the names of any victims or any information that might compromise the identity of a victim.
Remember that not all sex offenders appear on the list. Only Florida sex offenders who meet the criteria outlined in Florida Statutes 943.0435, 985.4815, or 775.21 will have their information and photographs available for public viewing.
