How to Find and Search for GA Inmate Records
In Georgia, inmate records are maintained and updated by the Department of Corrections. Usually this department is responsible for the data of the state prisons of Georgia. These prisons house the inmates who have been convicted of felony offenses.
If you are looking for a GA inmate, having some additional pieces of information like kind of offense or county of conviction makes it easier to conduct the search.
County jail facilities are for the misdemeanor offenders. Records of Georgia’s county inmates are maintained by the respective counties. If the convict committed a federal offense, then he or she is imprisoned in the Federal facility or Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Searching for State Prison Inmates and County Jail Inmates
There is an interagency pact between the 24 counties of Georgia. These prisons have agreed to lease 5,247 beds to state prisons for their inmates. In turn, Georgia state prison inmates render skilled as well as general service to the community. The link http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/FacilityMap/jsp/FacQrybyFacility.jsp will navigate you to the page where you can narrow down your search to the particular county or facility.
To locate an inmate in a county jail, you can also go to the respective sites. For example, if your subject has committed a misdemeanor act in Brooks County, you need to visit http://www.brooks-county.org/default.asp?p=jail_current_inc. The online source releases information including full name, age, sex, ethnicity, physical description, and color of eyes and hair. For counties that do not offer online inmate search, you can meet the sheriff in person. It is recommended to call the office prior to your visit.
Using the Georgia Department of Corrections
To conduct your search in Georgia Department of Corrections, visit http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/OffenderContacts/jsp/OffContQueryForm.jsp. Provide essential details like first and last names, GDC number, and the tenure of incarceration. The page will return with the contact address of inmates who have been here since October 2002.
For information on the GDC inmates before this date, online search would not work. You will need to send your information request via email at info@dcor.state.ga.us or call (404) 656-4661. Furnish your email with the above mentioned details and your phone number where you will be available during the office hours.
If you want to know about a particular inmate housed in GDC, go to http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/OffenderQuery/jsp/OffQryForm.jsp. To search through this page you will need either the GDC identification number known as UNO or the case number which one inmate can have more than one. If you know neither of the two, go for advanced search with generic details, like full name, alias, gender, etc.
