Georgia Municipal Court Information

The municipal court of Georgia is presided over by judges who are selected for a period of four years. The court has been given limited jurisdiction over case matters by the government. In cases where the offender does not plead guilty, then it is up to the municipal court to see that if there is enough evidence then the case will be sent to the higher courts for trial.

The civil cases over which the municipal courts have jurisdiction are the cases which do not dispute amounts over $15,000, which includes damage suits, contract breaches, garnishments and writs.

The municipal courts in Georgia also handle some additional proceedings like those of warrants for distress, liens on foreclosure and levies on attachments. The court also issues official documents like warrants on abandonment.
