Hamilton Municipal Court in Ohio is one of 127 municipal courts in Ohio. Like all other municipal courts, the municipal court in Hamilton is a locally funded court with limited jurisdiction over specific regions.

The municipal court deals with tort cases, contracts, and property cases with the amount of claim not exceeding $15,000. It also deals with small claims cases up to $3,000. Preliminary hearing of criminal cases and traffic violation cases are held in the municipal court. The Hamilton Court, Ohio has four broad divisions in the municipality. These are:

Hamilton Civil Division

The civil division of the Municipal Court takes care of all civil disputes involving monetary matters up to $15,000. Appeals for driving suspension (12-point) fall under the civil division of the court. Only small claims disputes are under the jurisdiction of the civil division; disputes of large amounts of money are directed to the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.

Hamilton Traffic Division

The traffic division of the municipal court in Hamilton in the state of Ohio is authorized to handle cases concerned with traffic violations, tickets, vehicle seizures and driver’s license issues.  Issues related to parking ticket payments can be solved by paying the necessary amount at the Hamilton Police Department or at specific areas designated by the court.

If the citizen pleads not guilty, a hearing of the case is arranged before a judge. Driver’s license cases have to be handled through a court appearance. There is no alternative to this. Some traffic infractions that do not need a court appearance are listed at the criminal division of the municipal court. You can pay a waiver fee and get rid of these charges.

Hamilton Criminal Division

The municipal court has a criminal division where criminal matters are heard. Infractions where the defendant may have to pay a fine of up to $1,000 or be penalized for twelve months are heard in the municipal court. Felony cases that are severe criminal offenses are forwarded to the Common Pleas Court of Butler County.  These cases are presented before a grand jury before being forwarded to the common pleas court.

Hamilton Probation Services

Probation services offered by the municipal court include deciding on a payment plan if the court orders for payment of fines. The probation office handles offenders after they have been released from jail.
