How to Access and Research Records of Idaho Inmates

The inmates held in the correctional facilities of Idaho are supervised by the Idaho Department of Correction to ensure their successful rehabilitation. In the state of Idaho, sheriffs are the local authorities of jails. The various county jails also hold inmates waiting for sentencing by the Department of Correction. Offenders are transported to a state prison after their sentence is handed out.

Inmate Corrections Programs

Various correctional and rehabilitation programs are in place to promote the safety of the citizens of Idaho. Apart from the state-owned Correctional Center, the Department of Correction supervises eight prisons and four community work stations. There are 1,338 sex offenders in Idaho prisons, their average sentence duration being 13.8 years. The inmates supervised by the Department of Correction are classified into four sections. These are:

1. Close: Those inmates who are serving a long-term sentence and have previous escape records. These inmates often exhibit disciplinary issues.
2. Medium: This category of offenders may or may not abide by rules and regulations as per the instructions given to them. They may escape if they are placed at a lower level of custody.
3. Minimum: This classification is for inmates who are not considered to be at risk of escaping and have less than two years to serve. These offenders show the ability to continually follow rules.
4. Community: These offenders are able to properly follow instructions and regulations, have a short time left to serve, and have been convicted for less severe crimes. These offenders do not pose any security risk.

Inmate Records

The Idaho Department of Correction maintains a database of inmate records, with information on all Idaho inmates who are incarcerated or on probation or parole. This database can be accessed online at https://www.accessidaho.org/public/corr/offender/http://www.peoplepublicrecords.org/search.html. Users are allowed to search for inmates by name or unique offender number. The search will only reveal information on the offenders who have finished serving their sentences. The crimes that they were convicted of will not be stated. Although inmate information changes often, the Department attempts to provide accurate information by updating the database regularly.

The DOC also offers victim services; victims are permitted to locate inmates through the DOC website and register for automated telephone notifications regarding any changes in an inmate's status or information. For more information regarding the victim services provided by the Department, call 208-658-2037 or send an e-mail to victimservices@idoc.idaho.gov.

For additional information, contact the authorities at inquire@idoc.idaho.gov. The DOC also offers the option of obtaining a copy of an inmate's record. To take advantage of this service, contact the DOC at 208-658-2000, or via postal mail at:
