Sex Offender Registry:
In a bid to protect the common people from the sex offenders, the “Illinois Compiled Statutes (730 ILCS 152/115 (a) and (b))” declared that the Illinois State Police must design and maintain a statewide database of sex offenders. The Sex Offender Registry was established to allow the common man access to the information about people convicted of sex offenses. The Sex Offender Registry keeps information like the name of the offender, alias name, date of birth and place of birth, conviction information like the crime he was convicted for and the court verdict in the case, addresses of his or her permanent and temporary residences, contact information like telephone or cell phone number, photographs, a sample of the offender’s DNA, fingerprints, employment information and school information.
Any person convicted of any of the sexual offenses mentioned earlier or found attempting to commit one or more of these must register with the authorities. Also, any individual who is a resident of another state but is currently staying in Illinois for three consecutive years must also register with the local authorities.
All sex offenders are required to register with the local law enforcement agencies of the area in which they reside. If they are within the boundaries of a city, they must register with the city police or with the county Sheriff’s office. The offenders must register within three days of moving in an area. Depending on the date and the nature of conviction, an offender must register for a period of ten years or for life.
