Conducting a Kansas Inmate Search

Conducting a search for inmates held in Kansas is a simple task. The various law enforcement agencies of the state as well as the Kansas Department of Corrections maintains a record of all offenders who have been sentenced to prison terms. The Kansas Department of Corrections has been entrusted with maintaining this database and promotes public safety by allowing the citizens of the state to access the details of these inmates.

You can locate criminals in the state of Kansas by conducting a Kansas inmate search. This service is provided by the Department of Corrections and entails no fee for searching the records of the inmates housed in the various state-controlled facilities. The Kansas DOC is also responsible for sending timely notifications to victims about the possible release dates of their offenders.

Conducting an Inmate Search

Access the Kansas Department of Corrections website at http://www.doc.ks.gov/kasper/ to conduct a search for all offenders who have been detained and placed under incarceration in the state. Details of offenders released on parole or otherwise can also be obtained by searching through the records.

When using the Kansas DOC inmate search, it is necessary to enter the inmate's exact name for the system to find the desired record. It is wise to enter both the first and the last name of an offender, particularly if the first name happens to be a common one. Users can also view a list of aliases for each inmate. An inmate's Kansas Department of Corrections number and social security number can be entered in order to narrow down the search. However, the Department does not disclose the social security number of an inmate in its search results; these numbers are only used as unique identifiers to quickly retrieve the desired record. Other identifiers include an inmate's race, gender, and date of birth. Providing the correct age range will narrow down the search even if you do not know the offender's date of birth. The county of conviction as well as the facility of incarceration can be selected from the drop down boxes. A thumbnail photograph of each inmate is included by default with the search results.

The results are displayed in a list format, which includes details of the inmate number, type of conviction, and current inmate status in addition to the photograph. It is also possible to search for an offender who has escaped from parole or community service by conducting an appropriate search through the system. The system also provides the option of printing an inmate's photograph or forwarding it by e-mail.

The Kansas Department of Corrections takes every possible step necessary in providing the public with accurate and updated information. However, the search results may be outdated or incorrect since inmate status frequently changes. You are free to contact the Department by e-mail at kdocpub@kdoc.dc.state.ks.us. Questions or complaints can also be sent by postal mail to Public Information Officer, 900 SW Jackson, 4th Floor, Landon State Office Building, Topeka, Kansas 66612-1284.
