How to Access Kentucky Inmate Information

The Kentucky Department of Corrections provides information to the public on the inmates held in the correctional facilities of the state. The Department's website can be accessed at http://www.corrections.ky.gov/default.htm. The Kentucky DOC offers inmate information to the public through the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) system. The information furnished on the website is usually accurate; however, it should be cross-checked if it is necessary that the information is definitely correct. The data on these inmates is updated regularly so that users of the service will always be presented with accurate data; the inmate database is updated four times every 24 hours. However, information that is less than 120 days old may not be finalized and therefore should not be treated as an accurate record.

Using the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL)

You can search for Kentucky inmate records at http://apps.corrections.ky.gov/KOOL/ioffsrch.asp. Take care when filling out the online form as inaccurate search criteria may not yield the desired results. If you want to run a check through all the records available with the department, you can simply leave the search fields blank and click on the “Search Data” option. This will return a list of all inmates in the state. You can also conduct an advanced search at http://apps.corrections.ky.gov/KOOL/ioffsrch_advanced.asp.

The website requires additional information before conducting an advanced search. You will need information such as the correctional facility in which the inmate was held as well as his or her race, gender, age, inmate ID, and conviction information. Conviction information includes details such as the indictment, the date of the crime, the county in which the crime was committed, the conviction date, and the date of incarceration. The fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled out. Some records also feature a photograph of the offender; those without a photograph were not processed at the appropriate facility. Records which include an inmate photograph will have a camera icon next to the entry. The information obtained in an inmate search is not to be misused, such as for harassing an offender.

Information about Kentucky inmates on death row can be accessed at http://www.corrections.ky.gov/inmateinfo/deathrow.htm. There are a total of 35 inmates who currently feature on the list at the website. The website offers details about each offender, such as his or her name, date of birth, and crime committed.
