Conducting a Maine Drunk Driving Records Search

In Maine, all drunk driving cases are referred to as OWI (operating while intoxicated), OUI (operating under the influence), or DUI (driving under the influence.) Here being under the influence refers to a person’s physical and mental faculties being impaired even to the minimum degree due to the consumption of alcohol.

Maine Drunk Driving Conviction

You are committing a drunk driving offense if you are driving a vehicle when your bodily blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level is .08 percent or more. The Zero Tolerance Law in Maine states that persons under the age of 21 years cannot drive any vehicle if there is any measurable amount of alcohol present in their bodies. The Implied Consent rule indicates that you have to undergo a chemical test, blood, breath, or urine, if you are suspected of or arrested for drunken driving.

A drunk driving charge on you can lead to two cases: a court case where prison sentences are meted out, fines are imposed, compulsory alcohol education programs are recommended, and orders to install ignition interlock devices in the convicts’ cars are issued; and a Bureau of Motor Vehicles case where the convicted person’s driver’s license is sought to be suspended.

In this context, it is worth noting that the admissible proofs of an OWI, DUI, or DWI offense are laboratory evidence of the presence of alcohol in the body or the driver’s refusal to undergo a breath or blood test. Your driver’s license is liable to be suspended solely on the basis of a police report and your BAC level results. Your license may also be suspended, for as many as six years, if you refuse to take the mandatory BAC test.

Maine Drunk Driving Records

Maine drunk driving records are available from a variety of sources: both state and federal. The National Driver Register (NDR) is a central database documenting information on all US drivers whose licenses have been canceled, suspended, or revoked for violating traffic laws, including committing drunk driving offenses. The information documented here is provided by the various state bureaus of transportation.

Information about NDR records on Maine drivers charged with committing drunk driving offenses can be had from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. You can call at 1-888-851-0436, mail or visit their office at USDOT/NHTSA West Building, NVS-422 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590 to request and obtain the information.

Maine drunk driving records can also be acquired from the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, with its headquarters at 101 Hospital Street, Augusta. Their database is extensive, containing information on more than 900, 000 licensed drivers, along with their driving histories. This information is also posted on their web site. Click the “Online driving records” link http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/licenses/http://www.peoplepublicrecords.org/index.html and you will be directed to a page from where you can begin a driver record check.

It is a paid service and a search result contains driving history information only, dating back to three or ten years. To obtain the records, you will have to provide the driver license number of the person or his/her name and date of birth. You should also have a valid Visa or MasterCard to make the payment. These records are however, not certified.

To acquire certified driving records, you will have to get in touch with the Bureau at 207-624-9000, extension 52116. This record can be furnished as evidence of not having committed any drunk driving offense.

Maine drunk driving records are hosted on the public domain and are easy to acquire.
