Searching the Maine Sex Offender Registry
The Maine State Police Bureau of Identification under the Department of Public Safety is the agency responsible for maintaining the Sex Offender Registry or the SOR for the State of Maine. The Sex Offender Registry is a list of individuals required by law to register as either a 10 year or a lifetime registrant. The public can freely search for registered sex offenders online at http://sor.informe.org/sor/.

The sex offender registry portal is under the supervision of the Maine State Police, State Bureau of Identification, is only sanctioned by law to cater to the public information regarding sex offenders via the Internet.
The requirement of the sex offender registration act is stated in Title 34-A MRSA, Chapter 15: Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act 1999. The public will be able to access the registry website by using the registrant's name or by town or city or by pin code.

- No matches can be found for the request
- One or more than one names when one searches by a specific name
- The details of the registrants who are residing in the city, town or pin code you are trying to access.
Information in the Sex Offender Registry
The subsequent information that will be provided with the primary search
- Name
- Birth date
- Photograph
- Town or city
- Origin of employment
- Location of school attended, and
- Constitutional citation and description of crime for which a registrant is convicted.
The additional information that can be found for extended search is:
- Alias name that is used by a registrant
- Registrants personal information such as sex, weight, race, height, and eye color
- Postal and home address or residence of registrants
- Legal depiction of the crime for which a registrant is convicted
- Date of conviction
- Sentenced imposed
The records are available for free and these records are updated regularly and reflect the current information of the State Bureau of Identification. Date of the last update is on every page. Registrants are asked to verify any change in their address. The State Bureau of Identification however does not guarantee the correctness of the listed address, as the addresses may not be updated for cases where the registrant have failed to notify the bureau about their address change.
There are many reasons why a person may not show in the registry search:
- An individual is still imprisoned
- The registration phase has been finished
- The crime for which an individual is convicted for does not necessitate registration
- The person is a new registrant and the registration procedure is in process
- A court order has been issued in order to end an individual’s obligation to register.
