Searching for Michigan DWI Records

A DWI charge is leveled on someone found “driving while intoxicated” by alcohol, banned drugs, or certain prescribed or non-prescribed medications.

Michigan DWI Laws and Penalties

As per Michigan DWI laws, a driver can be charged with committing a DWI crime if s/he is found driving after consuming and becoming impaired by alcohol, some illegal drugs, and certain prescribed or non-prescribed medicines. In this case, it is not necessary that the driver has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level that is above the permissible limit. In Michigan, a driver also invites a DWI charge if s/he is found driving with a BAC level that is 0.08% or more. A driver may also be charged with committing a DWI offense if s/he is found carrying a Schedule 1 drug like cocaine or barbiturates in the vehicle. As per Michigan DWI laws, it is also unlawful for someone aged less than 21 years to drive with a BAC level that is 0.02% or more.

Michigan follows the Implied Consent Rule, which means that a driver in the state will agree to a blood, breath, or urine test to determine the level of alcohol in his/her body, if requested by a peace officer during a DWI investigation. Refusing to take the test will result in suspension of driving privileges.

A Michigan DWI offense carries with it heavy fines and punishments: mandatory jail sentence, imposition of fines, vehicle immobilization, installation of an ignition interlock device in the vehicle, and compulsory community service.

Reasons for a Michigan DWI Records Search

You need to search Michigan DWI records if you doubt a driver of being a past DWI convict. It is your responsibility to make sure that s/he is not driving with suspended license. You should also check the records of your drivers if you are running a logistics company or a vehicle hire service and sound a warning to those with past DWI convictions. Make sure that the records of your new chauffeur are clean by going through them in a Michigan DWI database.

You may also need to search Michigan DWI records to check the current status of your own driving license.

Michigan DWI Records Search

The Michigan state driving license officials submit the details of all DWI offenses committed with the boundaries of the state to the National Driver Register (NDR). The NDR database documents the names and identification details of all US drivers whose licenses have been canceled, revoked, denied, or suspended and those who have been convicted of committing traffic violations and DWI offenses. To request a driving record at the NDR, obtain and complete the FAA Form 8060-13 available here: http://forms.faa.gov/forms/faa8060-13.pdf. Send the form, via US mail only, to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, ATTN: Bureau of Records, Neil Kirkman Building, PO Box 5775, Tallahassee Florida 32314.

Driving record information obtained from the NDR database contains the full name of the convicted driver, his/her identification details like physical appearance, the current state of the driving license, information on whether the license has ever been suspended, and detailed references to all the DWI offenses that s/he has committed in the past five years.

Michigan DWI records have been made easy to view and acquire so that both the common man and the law enforcement officer can access it for personal purposes or to check on suspect drivers. This will surely bring down the number of DWI offenses in the state and make the roads safe for everyone.
