Michigan Inmate Search

The Michigan Department of Corrections offers information about its inmates to the general public. A separate system known as the offender tracking Information system has been set up to provide every relevant detail about the Michigan inmates to all individuals residing within the boundaries of Michigan. This is done with the sole intention of safeguarding the residents of the state from the dangerous inmates currently housed in the State Prisons as well as the various correctional facilities. While the information obtained from the system is fairly accurate; the department does not guarantee the authenticity of the information given out as it may not reflect the real situation instantaneously. It is possible to verify the details of any Michigan inmate with the Department of Corrections, Michigan, various law enforcement agencies as well as from the records departments of the Michigan courts of law.

Information Obtained from Michigan Inmate Search

Details of all inmates currently under state incarceration or undergoing different correctional measures at the Department of Corrections can be obtained by searching through the database of the Offender tracking information system. Information about prisoners released or placed on probation can also be accessed by logging in to the Internet resource of OTIS. Entire details of the offenders who have transferred in and out of the state of Michigan in accordance with the Michigan Interstate Compact are also reflected in the system. Previous inmates who have escaped a parole term or are currently absconding from the law are included in the search results as well. The general public can remain informed about the inmates who escape from the state held prisons too.

You need to remember that the information obtained by accessing the offender tracking system will be fairly recent, as OTIS only provides the details of inmates placed in the care of the Michigan Department of Corrections for the last three years. Records of previous inmates whose convictions have been disputed or postponed or those offenders, who have had their records successfully expunged by the concerned court, are not retained within the database of OTIS either. Information pertaining to underage inmates of the state serving time at juvenile correctional homes is not disclosed to the general public in accordance with the State Statutes of Michigan.

Searching through the Offender Tracking Information System is completely free of charge and can be conducted from the privacy of your own home. You just need to access the website by visiting http://www.state.mi.us/mdoc/asp/otis2.html. The information that you receive as a result of the online search is for the purposes of safety only. Any action taken on basis of the information provided by OTIS is liable to dismissed by Michigan court of law. The information first needs to be endorsed by either the Michigan Department of Corrections or the Michigan State Police. It is also possible to check out the criminal history of an inmate by accessing the Michigan State Police iCHAT tool http://mi-mall.michigan.gov/ichat

Victim Notification

You are free to download the official form by accessing the resource on http://www.michigan.gov/corrections/0,1607,7-119-1384---,00.html in case you are unable to visit the department of corrections personally.
