The Criminal Justice Information Services Division operating under the Missouri State Highway Patrol is responsible for preserving and maintaining the criminal records of individuals in the State of Missouri. For Missouri Background check you need to conduct a search through their database in order to avail the details you are looking for. Missouri State Background Checks are available for criminal justice agencies as well as non-criminal justice agencies. There are two methods that are usually used for a Missouri Background Check. These are name based search and fingerprint based search.

Missouri Personal Identifier Search

The name based search, better known as Personal Identifier Search, offers ‘open records’ with regard to a search. These details include all convictions, information about arrests (30 days from the date of arrest), charges filed by the prosecution and which await court’s disposition, and ‘suspended imposition of sentence’ records. The processing fee for name based background search in Missouri is $9.00.

Missouri Fingerprint Based Search

For a background search based on fingerprint, the applicant needs to submit the completed fingerprint card (FD-258) along with the fee for the same, which is $20.00. However, pursuant to Section 571.101 RSMo and Section 210.487 RSMo, the fingerprint based search may be done for a fee of $14.00. The fingerprint based search offers all details present in the ‘closed records’, i.e. all details of the criminal history of the person. The payment may be done via money order or check addressed to the State of Missouri – Criminal Record System Fund. The processing time for the request is approximately 3 weeks.

Missouri State Highway Patrol also processes fingerprint based criminal history record check from the Federal Bureau of Investigation database. If the applicant is an authorized entity the processing fee for the records is $19.25. However in case the applicant is a volunteer, the processing fee is only $15.25. You could also conduct a direct background check from the FBI database if the reason for the check is personal or related to employment. The processing fee for the same is $18.00. Missouri State Highway Patrol& Public Window

You could also opt for background checks from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Public Window. However you may submit only single background check at the window. To avail this service you need to visit the Public Window located at the following address: Annex Building,1510 East Elm Street, Jefferson City.

The background checks can be done between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 a.m. on all weekdays, i.e. from Monday to Friday. You need to provide the full name, social security number and date of birth in order to access the information. Fingerprint based search could also be obtained from the Public Window. The processing of the request takes approximately 30 minutes.

If an individual or organization requires 5 or more than 5 background checks done every day then it is advisable to submit the same via electronic request submissions, i.e. by diskette. Missouri Applicant Processing Services

The Missouri Applicant Processing Services, a partnership between the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the L-1 Enrollment Services, is responsible for providing the public with electronic image capturing or ‘livescan’. The utilization of the L-1 services for a state background check has a processing fee of $32.95 for each request. In case it is a state and federal background check (available only to authorized entities) the fee is $52.95. The results of the background check are mailed to the requestor within 5 working days.
