Nebraska Sex Offender Registry Information
Nebraska Sex Offender Registry is maintained following the implementation of Nebraska State Statute 29-4002. The law categorically states that the sex offenders pose a grave threat to the security of the civic community as they are likely to repeat their crimes in the future. It has also been noted that often the law enforcement agencies failed to identify and take suitable action against sex offenders as there was no information related to his or her whereabouts. In a bid to help the work of the law enforcement agencies in the state, the legislature passed the statute which demanded all sex offenders to register with the local agencies. The information about the sex offender thus furnished is to be used by the people of the community to protect themselves against such anti-social elements.
New Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Law
From the 1st of Jan 2010, a modified Sex Offender Registration Law is going to be in place for Nebraska. This modification was called for after the state legislature passed the LB285 on the 29th of May 2009 to make the existent law at par with the Adam Welsh Act. The law includes new reporting requirements by virtue of which sex offenders need to register at least three days before their incarceration term ends with the automated fingerprint systems or the AFIS or a local law enforcement agency. The information submitted to the sex offender registry would include information such as
• All employment locations
• Professional licenses
• Fingerprints and palm prints
• All residential addresses
• Immigration and travel papers
• Email and chat ids
• DNA samples
• School information
• Remote communication addresses and device identifiers.
If there are any changes in the registration information, they should be personally reported to the office of the sheriff. As per the existing law, sex offenders in Nebraska are required to register for a span of ten years. After the implementation of the new law, the span may increase to 15 years, 25 years or even a lifetime registration with the law enforcement agencies.
Nebraska Sex Offender Registry Verification
As per the new law, the Nebraska sex offender registry verification process is also subject to change. The verification will also depend on the time for which the offender needs to remain registered with the law enforcement authorities. According to the new registration laws, the Nebraska sex offenders will not be henceforth classified on the basis of “risk levels”. Instead, the classification would be made on the basis of the number of years for which they need to register themselves.
