Nevada Area Code Directory Information

One of the best known vacation locales of the United States, Nevada is served by two prominent area codes. The state of Nevada was covered by a single area code until 1998. The increase in population along with an explosion of mobile phone subscribers led to the exhaustion of available telephone numbers.

Area Code 702

The area code of 702 is the original code of Nevada formulated by the North American Numbering Plan of 1947. The area of coverage is now limited to Las Vegas as well as Clark County region of the state. The need for a new code was felt predominantly due to the growth of the city of Las Vegas.

A total of 7 counties and 24 cities are covered by 702 at present. Apart from the world famous city of Las Vegas, the area code also serves several other prominent cities like the Blue Diamond, Jean, Indian Springs, Boulder City, Reno, Santa Barbara, Overton  and Searchlight.

609 telephone exchanges currently perform the function of connecting the entire population of the region by telephone. The large calling area of the region served by the area code 702 includes Green Valley, Henderson as well as the border of the state, Primm.  The city of Laughlin located along the Colorado River, famous for their gambling house is also served by the code 702.

Dialing the area code becomes essential while trying to access the city local numbers from Las Vegas. A majority of these exchanges are located in the most important city of Las Vegas as well.

The area code 702 is particularly famous and has been mentioned in "Jump on it” by Sir Mix-a-lot. The R&B trio of 702  has also been inspired by the area code of Nevada. “Ludacris Area Codes” also includes a mention of 702 along with other important area codes that were a part of the NANP.

Area Code 775

The area code 775 currently covers a total of 86 cities located within 20 counties of the state of Nevada. The cities of Las Vegas as well as Reno are served by both the area codes of the state as the large number of subscribers residing within the cities cannot be brought under a single area code.

Carson City is yet another prominent region of the state that is served by the area code of 775. The entire geographical area of the state outside of the metropolitan area of Las Vegas and Clark County comes under the coverage of this relatively new area code of the state.

457 telephone exchanges have been incorporated within the area code 775 which includes the well known cities of Tonopah, Spring Creek, Pahrump, Devil's Hole, Elko, Hawthorne, Mercury as well as Sparks and Battle Mountain.

Both landline as well as mobile phone subscribers can now use the area code 775 for the telephone numbers belonging to this region of the state. Apart from the increase in cellular phone services, the climate as well as the increase in business opportunities of the state has also contributed significantly to the surge in numbers that are covered by the area code 775.
