Nevada Sex Offender Registry Information
The purpose of the Nevada Sex Offender Registry is to provide information to the public about the location of sex offenders within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction. The provisions of NRS 179B.250 allow the public to access specific information about sex offenders. Previously, the public could only access this kind of information through a phone query to the Nevada Sex Offender Registry Unit, a division of the State Criminal History Repository. After the death of a seven-year-old girl named Megan Kanka in 1994, the public demanded a quicker method of obtaining details about the sex offenders in their state. The state of Nevada legislature created the Nevada Sex Offender Registry to serve this purpose. Information Included with an Offender's Registration
The statute orders the State Criminal History Repository to maintain a website which provides information about high-risk sex offenders to the public. The website includes such offender information as name, known pseudonyms, the year or years of birth used by the offender, their photographs, their tier or risk level, a physical description of the offender, the full residential address of the offender, the block number of employment address of the offender, the block number of school address of the offender, and conviction information, as has been registered with the Nevada Sex Offender Registry.
The conviction information includes details such as the date of the offender's conviction, a description of the conviction, the court of conviction, and the name of the crime. Also provided is the location of the penal institution where the offender served his or her sentence, the name of the city, county, or township where the offender was convicted, and the commitment of hospitals for sexual offense as well as statute. It is not possible to view the information of a level 1 offender; only the information of level 2 and level 3 offenders is available online. Offenders are classified as level 1, 2, or 3 according to the risk they pose to their communities.
