New Hampshire Area Code Directory Information

The area codes were introduced as part of the process of streamlining the telecommunications network in the country. The system was first introduced as a part of a joint initiative by Bell Laboratories and AT&T during the 1940s. These were known as NPA or Number Plan Area known as area code.  Each area code has been assigned approximately 7,920,000 numbers that are currently in use. New area codes are introduced upon the exhaustion of the current area code.  In such a scenario, prior to the exhaustion of the code, a “relief” plan is chalked out so that new phone numbers can be accommodated within the new area code.

Area Code Directory

An area code directory contains the list of the exchange and phone numbers that are listed under a particular area code. New Hampshire area code directory contains a comprehensive list of the phone numbers in the state. You can find out any landline number in the state by browsing through the New Hampshire area code directory. Cellular numbers are not listed in this directory. You can also search for New Hampshire numbers on Yellow Pages.

The area codes have a preset format. They appear as NXX where N could be any digit between 2 to 9 and X may be a digit from 0-9. The area code of a region has generally a 0 or 1 in the middle. However, this restriction was no longer effective from 1995 and different area code combinations were formulated and implemented. With the rule been lifted, it is now possible to make 800 combinations. But all of these are not available as they have been reserved in advance for special purposes.

Initially the states that had only one area code assigned to them had a three digit code with ‘0’ in the middle. New Hampshire was one of these states and therefore is served by the area code 603. It was part of the first group of 86 area codes that were introduced in the country as part of the North American Numbering Plan.
