How to Find Different Types of New York Arrest Records
In New York, the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is the state repository which is responsible for maintaining and updating the information on criminal history of all individuals residing in the state. The Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) receives details of arrests, depositions and convictions from the various law enforcement agencies and criminal justice agencies operating at the different levels in the state. These agencies include the county courts, Probation and Parole, Sheriffs, and highway patrol officers. The information on arrest records is then entered and updated in the Criminal History Record Information (CHRI).
Accessing Arrest Records in the State
New York State only allows individuals to view their own arrest records and criminal history. According to the state laws and regulations under Part 6050.1, individuals are not allowed to request another individual’s arrest records or to establish if that individual has a criminal arrest registered against him. Reviewing Personal Arrest Records
Individuals can request to view their own arrest records and review them through the Record Review Packet which can be obtained from the Division of Criminal Justice Services. You need to follow the instructions provided to complete and submit the application packet along with your fingerprint identification card, and a fee of $50 to the Division of Criminal Justice Services. There is no fee involved for the application packet itself. The fee is required when you send the supporting materials to the Division of Criminal Justice Services to receive a copy of your record.
To review your own arrest data or make a modification or challenge the accuracy or completeness of them, you need to get in touch with the arresting agency and request that they submit the change in records directly to the Division of Criminal Justice Services. The Division of Criminal Justice Services only accepts written notifications from an arresting agency for making any corrections to your Criminal History Record Information record.
To review information on your case disposition, correct or update any missing disposition details, you need to request a certified copy of the disposition data from the court of adjudication. Once you acquire the sanctioned copy of disposition data from the court of adjudication, you need to forward the data to the Record Review Unit of the Division of Criminal Justice Services to process your request.

New York State Sex Offender Records
The sex offender registry ensures the safety and security of the communities and individuals by maintaining and updating the list of all sex offenders in the state. According to the New York state laws, sexual offenders are required to register themselves. The details of the sex offender list are available to the law enforcement agencies as well as the common public.
The State of New York has a classification system for sex offenders that is based on the level of risk involved. The three levels of sex offenders in New York are:
• Level 1 is considered to be of low risk
• Level 2 is considered to be of medium risk
• Level 3 is considered to be of high risk
A Level 1 offense requires offenders to register for a minimum of twenty years, and Level 2 and 3 offenses require offenders to register for life. While the State Police and the law enforcement agencies can access all levels of offenses and offenders, the general public can access level 2 and level 3 offenses and offenders.
To conduct a search for sex offenders, you can search by zip code, county or the last name, or you can also call (800) 262-3257. By calling this number you can access all three levels of offenses and offenders listed on the sex offender registry. When you call this number, you need to provide details such as name, date of birth, exact address, Social Security number or a driver‘s license.
The Division of Criminal Justice services also allow individuals and employers to access records on the sex offender registry. You can contact the Sex Offender Registry through:
