Finding NJ DUI Records

It is important for people who drive on the New Jersey roads to learn about the New Jersey DUI laws. If you are driving under influence (DUI) of intoxicants such as alcohol and drugs and have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or more, you will be arrested on DUI charges and penalized by the court. Whether you are driving a car or a boat, if you are found guilty, you will be penalized.

Note that DUI in New Jersey comes with harsh penalties such as being sentenced to jail and payment of fines, surcharge and fees. You may also be asked to get involved in community service. According to the NJ DUI law, if you have consumed alcohol to an extent where your mental and physical faculties are impaired, and are driving, you will be arrested.

The police officer can stop you after finding the manner of your driving a motor vehicle suspicious. The officer might ask you to go for the breathalyzer test that will take the blood alcohol reading. If you are found guilty, you will be arrested by the officer immediately.

NJ DUI Penalties

The first DUI offense usually gets the accused incarceration for a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 48 hours. The court can impose an imprisonment of 30 days. The license can be suspended for a period of three months to one year and the accused has to pay a fine of $250 to $500.

The second offense includes imprisonment for 48 hours to 90 days, payment of a fine of $500.00 to $1,000 and doing community service for 30 days. The accused might also have his/her license suspended for 2 years, and can be asked by the court to install ignition interlock device in the motor vehicle for one to three years.

The third offense gets you fined for $1,000 and also results in the loss of your driver’s license for ten years. The charge might result in incarceration for a minimum of 180 days. The court can ask you to install ignition interlock device for a period of 1 to 3 years.

NJ DUI Records

Information about an individual’s driving record in New Jersey can be obtained from the Motor Vehicle Commission. The driving record features all information about past DUI convictions, records of suspension of driving license and revocations. These can be requested from any of the Regional Service Centers of the Motor Vehicle Commission. These centers are located at West Deptford, Eatontown, and Trenton. The offices remain open from 8 in the morning to 4.30 in the evening from Monday to Friday. The hours of operation on Saturday are from 8 in the morning to 12 noon.

New Jersey driving records can also be obtained by requesting for a Driver History Abstract. In order to access the abstract you need to open an account with the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission https://emvc.state.nj.us/MVC_MYMVC/AVSStart.jsp.
