Learn More About Ohio DUI Records

Statistics reveal that Ohio reports an alcohol related death every 30 minutes while an injury is caused by an alcohol related accident every two minutes. A DUI (Driving under influence of drug, alcohol or any other intoxicating items) offense is registered when Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of a driver is more than 0.08%. In Ohio DUI is also referred to as DWI (driving while intoxicated) or OVI (Operating under the Influence Of).

In 1992, The Department Of Motor Vehicles in Ohio began maintaining the driving particulars to make it easy for the general public to access Ohio DUI records. Factually, a person reaching the legal limit of 0.08% is twice as likely to cause fatal accidents.

Ohio Codes for the Minor DUI Offenders

The legal age limit for consuming alcohol is 21. But if you are found to have a BAC count between 0.02% and 0.08% while driving, you will be convicted under OVAUC or Operating a Vehicle after underage consumption. The penalties imposed to a minor Ohio DUI offender will include a primary suspension of the license for at least 60 days which can go up to two years. The minor will also have to attend compulsory driving lessons. See a complete chart of the reinstatement fee in this link: http://bmv.ohio.gov/suspension_reinstatement.stm.

Ohio Codes for the Adult DUI Offenders

The Ohio DUI has stricter codes for the adult offenders. A BAC count of 0.08% or more will restrict you from driving immediately. If you are suspected of DWI, you will be asked to take a breathalyzer test. Refusing a test of BAC will result in immediate suspension of  your license. Otherwise if your BAC level shows a count above 0.08%, you will be charged with a Columbus Ohio DUI case. Your driving rights will be immediately restricted for at least 3 months. After the court hearing the offender will be imposed with penalties like a minimum imprisonment of 3 days, payment of reinstatement fees and DUI fines.

Ohio DUI Records

An Ohio DUI arrest generates two types of cases. These are as follows:

1.    Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles- Here you can argue for the suspension of your driving license. This department does not handle any judicial hearing.
2.    Ohio DUI criminal case- Here the prosecutor fights the case with all the related DUI laws and convictions.

Therefore records can be searched from these departments of Ohio. The records are compiled from various counties and cities of Ohio too. They contain general information as well as the driving information of drivers who have been charged with  DUI offenses. You can easily search for these records from online databases. The databases are updated as soon as a DUI case is registered. Data required for getting a DUI report are:

•     First Name
•    Last name
•    Middle name
•    City
•    Age
•    State
•    SSN

You can also find out whether there is any DUI charge filed against a particular person. You need to know a few details like the license ID, name of the person and the location from where the license was issued before requesting a record. The Ohio laws permit viewing of driving records for the last 3 years. To obtain an Ohio DUI record of a particular individual you would require filling in a form numbered BMV 5008. You may also ask for your own records. To start your search, download the BMV 1173 Request Form from the following link: http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/bmv1173.pdf.
