The U.S. District Court for the Middle District has 6 assigned judges, with jurisdiction over approximately one half of Pennsylvania: Adams, Bradford, Cameron, Centre, Carbon, Columbia, Clinton, Cumberland, Franklin, Dauphin, Huntingdon, Fulton, Lackawanna, Juniata, Luzerne, Lebanon, Lycoming, Monroe, Mifflin, Montour, Perry, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Potter, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Susquehanna, Union, Wyoming, Wayne and York counties.
Harrisburg, the state capital, lying within this jurisdiction is where most suits against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are filed in the Middle District. Likewise, because York County Prison served as the largest Immigration and Naturalization Service facility in the Northeast, immigration cases were largely heard here. The courts of appeal now review most immigration decisions.
