Ramsey Court Information
The Ramsey County in Minnesota is served by the Second Judicial District Court and is often referred to as the Ramsey Court. It is a general jurisdiction trial court and is an important unit of the unified court system of the state. The court has jurisdiction to hear both civil and criminal cases.
The court at Ramsey appoints 35 judicial officials, comprising 29 judges, 4 referees and 2 magistrates. All the judges have the authority to hear and decide on both civil and criminal cases. Second Judicial District Court in Ramsey: Divisions
For better dissemination of duties and responsibilities, the Ramsey Court has separated the court into 5 divisions. These are as follows:
Civil Division comprises the following offices:
• Probate Court – handles all cases involving estates, conservatorships, guardianships, and trusts.
• Conciliation Court – handles small claims cases where the amount of controversy is less than $7,500.
• Housing Court – all landlord/tenant cases are taken up by this court.
• Civil Assignment Office – schedules case hearings and trials.
• Civil Filing Office – responsible for processing all civil case documents.
• Civil Records Office – preserves and maintains all civil court case records.
• Civil Commitment Office –processes and maintains petitions filed for Judicial Commitment.

The Assignment Division comprises the Criminal Assignment Office, the Interpreters Office and the Jury Office. The chief duty of the division is to assign judges and referees to particular cases.
