Finding South Carolina Inmate Records Online
The South Carolina Department of Correction provides numerous rehabilitative services for the prison inmates of the state. Inmates can learn about new skills to aid in finding employment, earn vocational training and receive certificates, receive substance abuse treatment, learn about how crime affects victims, and even assist in teaching youths about life in prison.
South Carolina Inmate Records
The South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) operates an online search tool, located at http://www.doc.sc.gov/, which provides information to the public on inmates who are incarcerated in the correctional facilities of South Carolina. This search tool, however, does not provide information on offenders who have been released from incarceration, those who are serving terms in county jails or detention facilities, or those who are under parole, probation, or other community supervision. Escaped fugitives are also excluded from the search results.
In addition to the online inmate search feature, the SCDC operates a toll-free inmate information phone line at 877-846-3472. This service is free to the general public. The SCDC strives to ensure the accuracy of this information but makes no guarantee that the data is reliable.
The SCDC is responsible for the housing, feeding, and security of adult offenders, aged 17 years and above, who were sentenced to a prison term of at least three months. The SCDC also supervises juveniles sentenced as adults, county safe keepers, death row inmates, pre-trial offenders who would pose a high risk in local jails, interstate Corrections Compact inmates, and pre-sentence evaluation offenders under the Youthful Offender Act, section 5B.
