Authority of the St. Tammany Court
Court Tammany lies in the judiciary of the 22nd Judicial District Court of Louisiana. As such the rules and regulations of the 22nd District Court also stands true for Tammany Court. As per the rules, a probation office has been set up for presiding over misdemeanor offenses.
The probation officer is responsible for monitoring the conduct of persons who have been placed on probation for committing a misdemeanor offense within the 22nd Judicial District area. The offender has to undergo drug tests, meet probation officers, attend compulsory classes, perform community service, and pay fines and fees. The probation office is in the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center.
The Family and Juvenile Court of Tammany operate as per the rules of the 22nd Judicial District Court. Preliminary hearings into family court affairs are carried out by assigned hearing officers and social workers. Hearing officers are actually licensed attorneys who are experts in domestic matters and they hear support and custody related concerns.
Licensed social workers handle mediation and parental consultation services. The hearing officers and the social workers suggest recommendations to the family court judges based on the outcomes of the hearings and conferences. Cases may be resolved without the contending parties needing to appear before the judge.
The drug court in St. Tammany Parish serves as a rehabilitation center where frequent and intensive judicial supervision, compulsory drug tests, substance abuse treatments, educational programs, sanctions and incentives are rolled out to bring back the offenders to a life of normalcy. All these efforts span a period of two years.
Drug Court serves as an alternative to incarcerating non-violent, less serious substance abuse offenders in an effort to reduce recidivism. The 22nd Judicial District Drug Court has the distinction of being named a mentor drug court and its programs and operations are emulated by newly formed drug courts.

In the former location, the court operates only for a limited duration and offers only a few services like civil suit and uniform commercial code filings and property transaction recording.
