Learn About Texas Warrants

Texas warrants are maintained by the county law enforcement agencies which furnish the information to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The information is sourced from the public court records as warrants are issued by the courts of the respective counties in which the crime takes place.

You may not be aware of a Texas warrant issued against your name for offenses such as traffic violations, for over speeding or for non payment of traffic fines. An arrest warrant in the state is issued for violent crimes or for evading a probation term.

If you have a Texas warrant issued against your name, you need to visit the local courthouse to know about the exact cause for the issuance of the warrant. If the crime is not a serious one, then you might not be arrested, such as in case of non payment of traffic fines. Things, however, are different in case of repeat offenses and you should therefore take the advice of your lawyer before turning yourself in. Felony warrants, however, remain in one’s record, even after the arrest has been made.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice

The Parole Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice also has a separate Warrants division functioning under it. The section has the authority to issue warrants, working on the reports and is also in charge of the process of warrant withdrawal tracking. It comprises several units such as the Command Center, the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, the Extradition Unit, the Time Credits Unit and the EM/SISP unit that are responsible for carrying out the procedures for the warrants in Texas issued by the department.

Austin Texas Warrants

The warrant records in the city of Austin are maintained by the Austin Police Department. The warrant published on the website of the Department, however, may not necessarily be an active warrant. Warrants that have already been executed upon arrest or have been withdrawn or is no longer valid as the offender has appeared in the court of law may still be on the list of warrants published by the Austin Police Department.

If you happen to know of the whereabouts of an individual listed on the website of the warrants page of the Department, then you can report about them to the Austin Municipal Court by calling at the number 512 974 4812 for the warrants that end with ‘CC’ or ‘MC’. For other warrants, you can call up the APD Warrant office at 512 974 5299 from 8 in the morning to 5.30 in the evening.

If you find a warrant against your own name and would try to get rid of it, then you need to call the concerned authorities. If your warrant number ends with ‘MC’, then you need to get in touch with the Austin Municipal Court. You can reach them at 512 974 4879. In case of warrants that end with a code other than MC, you need to get in touch with the Travis County Self Surrender Desk on the number 512 854 7860. For any further query, you can mail the Austin Police Department on their email id http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/connect/email_apd3.htm. You can conduct the search for warrants on the website of the Austin Police Department http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/warrants/warrantsearch.cfm.
