How to Access and Research Utah Inmate Records

Utah inmate records are maintained by the Utah Department of Corrections or, UDC. The website of the UDC can be found at http://www.cr.ex.state.ut.us/contenthome/homepage.asp. These inmate records can be accessed by the general public and can prove useful to prospective employers, job applicants, and the family members of those incarcerated in the correctional facilities of Utah. To access information about a Utah inmate, mail the UDC at:

Using the Online Utah Offender Search Tool

You can search for inmates at http://www.cr.ex.state.ut.us/contentservices/offendersearch.asp by filling out the Offender Search Form provided on the webpage. Simply enter the desired inmate's first and last name and click on the "Submit" button. The search results page will display a list of the offenders who match your search. The website includes certain information on each offender, such as his or her gender, age, offender number, legal status, housing status, and aliases. Most offenders are listed as being housed off-site. In some cases inmate housing information is not made available to the public, to ensure the safety of the inmate.

The information on the website is updated regularly and features basic data about the inmates who are presently under the supervision of the Utah Department of Corrections.  However, you will not usually find complete background information on an inmate at this website. Utah County Inmate Search

A search of the inmates in Utah County can be conducted at the website of the county sheriff, located at http://www.co.utah.ut.us/DEPT/SHERIFF/InmateSearch.asp. You can search by entering either the name of the inmate or the date on which he or she was arrested. The search results will display details such as the current status of the inmate, the reason why he or she was incarcerated, and personal information.

You can also obtain a comprehensive list of all the inmates currently serving a prison sentence in Utah County at http://www.co.utah.ut.us/DEPT/SHERIFF/InmateActiveResults.asp. Each inmate's current status is indicated alongside his or her name, listed as either E, D, or A. Category E inmates are not being held in jail but are on GPS monitoring; category D inmates are outside of jail and on work diversion. Category A inmates are currently incarcerated.
