Information About the Wisconsin County Court
In the state of Wisconsin, there are four levels of courts. Above the municipal courts are the Circuit Courts, which may also be known as County Courts. These courts hear all types of civil and criminal cases, as well as those related to domestic and juvenile matters.
A Wisconcin County Court directory, complete with addresses and phone numbers, may be found at http://www.wicourts.gov/contact/docs/circuit.pdf. There is at least one circuit court in each county, except for six of them, which share judges between pairs. The largest Wisconsin Circuit Court is located in Milwaukee County, where there are a total of 47 judges.
These circuit courts are funded by the counties and state, and each circuit has an elected clerk. They are considered the courts of original jurisdiction in the state for all civil and criminal cases. A list of websites for the Wisconsin County Courts may be found at http://www.wicourts.gov/courts/circuit/ccsites.htm.
