This official State of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry website is maintained and updated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registration Program (SORP) for the purpose of enhancing public safety and spreading public awareness regarding sexual violence in the communities of Wisconsin. Registration Requirements
Individuals who were convicted in the past for offenses like child molestation, child rape, or any other sexual offense against minors have to register with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
When an offender registers, he/she has to provide certain details which include the individual’s name and aliases, gender, date of birth, height, weight, race, hair color and eye color, as well as information about scars, tattoos or any other markings.
Registration also requires information on residential address, name and address of the employer in Wisconsin, name and address of the higher learning school or institute the offender is enrolled in, last updating of information date, and license number as well as make and model of vehicles in possession of the registrant.
The offender should also part with information about the conviction details. He/she must state the date of conviction along with the date of commitment of the crime, date of being placed on supervision, date of being released from incarceration, and date of being discharged from sentence.
Other Important Information for Registrants
The offenders need to register when on supervision and for a minimum period of 15 years from the expiry of the commitment or sentence. An individual who has been deemed as a sexually violent person under Chapter 980 will need to register for life. Sexually violent registrants are also required to verify the information regarding them provided in the registry every 90 days.
Updating of information is essential when an offender changes his/her residential address, place of employment address or school enrollment. The update must take place within 10 days before the occurring of the change.
Penalty for False Information and Non-Compliance
If the sexual offender has been found to provide wrong information about his/her whereabouts knowingly, or has not registered or re-registered complying with the norms, or has avoided registration all together, the individual will be held guilty of Class H felony and can be fined $10,000 or put behind bars for 6 years. In some cases, the guilty can face both fine and imprisonment.
