Delaware Sex Offender Registration Details

Protecting your children from sex offenders is a perpetual problem for most individuals. The State of Delaware is no exception either. The growing concern over the Delaware sex offenders is heightened when one goes through the national statistics which reveal that there are almost 374,270 registered sex offenders all over the country. With incidents of children missing from their homes or schools becoming common, there is no reckoning that your child isn’t a victim of a Delaware sex offender lurking about in your neighborhood. You need to know the whereabouts of these offenders in order to protect your family and friends from these dangerous criminals.

President Clinton passed the Megan’s Law in 1996 which necessitates each US state to register all criminals convicted of sex offenses so far. This is now followed by almost all states of the nation and Delaware uploads every relevant detail of its registered sex offenders online. The photo of a sex offender Level III can also be viewed by accessing the sex offenders’ registry online. The offenders discharged without being convicted are spared from registering themselves in the registry.

Registration of Sex Offenders:

A Delaware sex offender convicted on charges as specified by § 4121(a) (4) and released from the custodial institution by way of discharge or parole is required to register with the state. The entire process needs to be completed well within 90 days of release from the prison. An offender enrolled in school at the time of registration is also required to furnish the information to the principal of his school once his name is included in the sex offender registry.

The registry of Delaware sex offenders includes the name along with aliases and nicknames of the offender. Social security number as well as the e-mail addresses of the sex offender is required during registration as well. Total physical description including the color of eyes and hair along with age and race of the Delaware sex offender can be viewed by going through the online sex offender registry too. Other identifiers including his last known address and details of his driving license are furnished within the sex offender registry as well.

Relevant details of the conditions of release if any are also required to be included in the state registry. Photograph of each sex offender is required to be appended to the registration form as well. A Delaware sex offender held in custody in any other state of USA is required to register within 3 days of returning to Delaware. Fingerprints as well as DNA mapping of high risk sex offenders are maintained by the State Department of Police as well as the Bureau responsible for maintaining the Sex offender registry of Delaware.
