Illinois Sex Offender Registration & Database

To ensure safety and improved community life of people in Illinois, the database has been developed and is updated regularly. In 1996, the database of Illinois registered sex offenders was created. As a result, all the offenders who had committed sex crimes and were above 18 at that time were required to register.

According to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act, a sex offender in Illinois must report for registration to his or her judiciary in the county where he resides within three business days of final release from the confinement. If the convict is on probation, then he or she needs to register within three days of sentence being implemented.

Apart from these, there are some more conditions mandatory for the sex offenders in Illinois. They need to register once in every year. If the offender is found a SVP or Sexually Violent Person, he or she must register every three months. He or she must notify the authorities if there is any change in address and contact number. For registration, address proof is required and the convict is photographed before he or she is marked as Illinois registered sex offender. Failure to turn up for registration can lead to further confinement under Class 3 felony charge which can extend for five years.

All these protocols are maintained so that the database has correct information. When an individual is looking for a sex offender in locality, he or she must get correct details like name and all the aliases that the offender has used, date of birth, location and the particular crime for which he has been registered. If a sex offender visits Illinois and stays here for more than three days in one calendar year, he or she must register with the police office nearest to the area of stay. And if a registered IL sex offender leaves the state he or she also needs to notify the judiciary about the absence.
