Washington County Sex Offender Information
Protecting society from sex offenders is the primary function of the Washington County law enforcement division. The community protection act of 1990 makes the Sheriff’s office the primary agency for amalgamating and collating information on sex offenders who are staying in and around various counties of Washington.
The degree and substance of relevant and important information is related to:
The risk posed by the offender to the community
The offender's residence and employment address
The wants of affected members of the community for information that is necessary to protect their safety and interest
The information that is necessary and relevant to protect the public and to counteract the danger that is created by a particular offender is released pursuant to RCW 4.24.550.
Classification of the Sex Offender
Sex offenders are classified according to level risk: I, II and III. Level I offenders are at low risk to re-offend. Level II sex offenders are at relatively moderate risk to re-offend. Level III sex offenders are ranked as the most treacherous to the public and to society and are at high risk to re-offend.
Information issued by government agencies to the community take into consideration the segregation level of the sex offenders.
Records on Level I sex offenders are shared with other law enforcement bodies. On request, necessary and correct information can be issued to the members of the public. The request must be in writing and include the reasons for the application. Sex offender information regarding registration on level I sex offenders might not be disclosed unless the level I sex offender is listed as a transitory and has an active arrest warrant.
Records on level II sex offenders can be released to private and public schools, family daycare service providers, child daycare service centers, businesses organizations that cater to women, children or susceptible adults, and neighbors near the offender’s place of residence. Information regarding sex offender registration can be released to public if there is a pertinent and necessary requirement for it. Limited sex offender registration information on level II offenders may be released to the people in general.
Sex offender registration information on level III sex offenders is released to the general public. Any individual requesting for such information on level III sex offenders will be provided with a copy of public announcement flyer set by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
